Here Are Some Basics!

Cost of Scouting

Pack Dues:

· Some Packs charge dues to help offset the cost of Yearly activities. They are usually less than $30 and can be offset by participating in Fundraisers.

You will also need to purchase council strips, Unit Numbers, world Crest, Neckerchief and slide to go along with the uniform. Uniforms and all accessories can be purchased at the South Plains Council Scout Shop.

Training and Youth Protection

All registered adult leaders MUST take Youth Protection Training

Visit my.scouting.org, create an account, and complete the training as soon as you are able.

It only takes 30 minutes!

My.scouting.org offers a number of other trainings to help you learn about your role if you choose to be a registered adult leader.  To see available trainings, go to “My Dashboard” on your my.scouting.org account.

The South Plains Council also offers a variety of other training courses in a classroom.

The Boy Scouts is a volunteer based organization and guided by our local professionals. Throughout the United States there are more than 1.5 million registered volunteer leaders, but we always need more help in Scouting, so if you are interested in volunteering let us know.

There are several different activities, events, and programs the Cub scouts are able to participate in.  Here are some that are typically offered by most packs.

Pinewood Derby: Boys work with adults to build a race car from a kit. Different prizes can be won based on speed and design. The derbies usually happen during early spring.

Raingutter Regatta- Boys build wind-powered sailing vessels with adults that race in a track made out of a rain gutter. This event usually takes place in the fall.
